The city of Rio Grande, with a territorial area of 2,813.91 km² (IBGE), is located on the Southern Coastal Plains of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Its territory encompasses a lowland strip, on the Rio Grande Restinga, southeast the Lagoa dos Patos mouth.
